Looking for a sign? Well look no more. Now is the time to take back control of your life and live it to the full, despite having hidradenitis suppurativa.
Here are some ideas to get you on track to living your best life:
Stay Social
Whether it’s joining a club, finding a new hobby or joining an online support group, it is important to maintain contact with other people. Make a commitment to yourself to start a conversation, join that club or phone that friend. Come out from the shadows and take a peep at all life has to offer.
Choose to change your diet
Not all diets are boring or hard work! Some little changes we can make require little effort, so take charge of what you eat and start your hidradenitis suppurativa diet, your body will thank you for it.
Explore online Learning
Want to upskill or even earn professional qualifications that can help you get that dream job and work from home? Take a chance on yourself and choose to spend your time wisely on online learning. It doesn’t have to be complicated, you can start off with a short course, and work your way up at your own pace.
Get some exercise
Ok, well maybe not this, we all know that sometimes exercise and HS are not compatible. When regular exercise is not an option, look for an alternative like an HS specific yoga video, to help with aching muscles( link to yoga video). There is always something you can do to help your body, and just like with your hidradenitis suppurativa diet, you can take control and incorporate some exercise into your daily routine.
Get some rest
We tend to feel guilty for resting, or feel like people think we are lazy. Rest is an important factor in our wellbeing, so forget about what people think and you do you. Wherever you are, or whatever you’re doing, if your body says rest, just take a little rest.
Express yourself
Don’t bottle up those feelings, set them free! Confide in someone you trust, or join a support group for people with HS. HS can be agonising, physically and mentally – don’t go it alone. You’ll be surprised what friendships can blossom when you open up about your feelings.
Nurture your relationships
Whether they are friendships, with family or romantic, we’ve got to nurture our relationships. Being open about your HS experience and is a good place to start, and can lead to more understanding and deeper connection. You have the power to overcome the stigma or shame caused by HS. You are loved.
Follow your dreams
Such a cliché I know! But it is possible to achieve anything we want to if we really want it and believe in ourselves. Instead of letting HS stop us in our tracks, we can choose to adapt and adjust things so that we can get on and live our best life.
Sleep
Sleep gives our bodies a chance to heal. All we need here are some new healthy sleep habits, a bit of self-discipline and a comfy bed.
Even the toughest among us need a good nights sleep.
Take control of your day to day wound care
Finding the right dressings can be tricky, but once you find a product you know is easy to use, secure, comfortable and that you can rely on, you can stop thinking about leaks and get back to living life. We can help you with that! You can learn more about HS wound care here.
