Hidradenitis Suppurativa takes it’s toll on our lives in lots of different ways. One very common issue I find when I speak to other people with hidradenitis suppurativa is sex and intimacy. How are we supposed to maintain a healthy relationship with hidradenitis suppurativa. A sex life feels like a lost hope when we are in pain, and because we’re conscious of HS lesions affecting us “down there”.
Well, believe it or not, it is possible to have a sex life when you have HS. And while it can be difficult to get over the shame and stigma attached to having HS, it is possible. We can overcome our body image issues and change the way we think about sex and intimacy.
Hidradenitis suppurativa, sex and intimacy
We have paired up with sex therapist Erin Martinez to break some taboos, and learn how we can get the most out of life (and our sex life) despite having HS. In this video, Erin talks about relationships, HS and negotiating intimacy.
Erin has over 20 years of experience supporting and counselling people from all walks of life. She is a certified sex therapist and has worked with many people with HS. This is her fourth video in our series on hidradenitis suppurativa, sex, intimacy and relationships.
